3rd KidFish Derby Fun for Area Youth
Boys & Girls Club of Palacios registered over 40 youth
Saturday, June 3, for their 3rd Annual Wal-Mart Kids All-American
Fishing Derby. This year’s contest was held in conjunction
with Texas Free Fishing Day, which allowed all adult participants
to enjoy fishing for the day without the need to purchase a
Texas fishing license. Most families registered early in the
day, picked up their free bait and headed out to their favorite
fishing spot. Staff from the local Texas Parks and Wildlife
office were on hand to offer fishing and casting tips and measure
contest entries. Top three winners for longest fish included
Spencer Fort, Kevin Carpenter, and Jordan Hunter. The
Zebco Casting Contest was won by Tiffany Taylor.
Along with enjoying a lunch and free goodie bags full of fun
stuff , all registered participants picked out a prize from
the large number of toys and fishing equipment donated by area
businesses. Boys & Girls Club wishes to thank Palacios
Coastal Fisheries Division of Texas Parks & Wildlife, Academy
Sports & Outdoor, Bay City H-E-B Food Pantry and Wal-Mart
stores, Porter’s ACE Hardware, Super S Foods, and all
the national Derby sponsors for their generous support of this
year’s event. |
