| The Texas A&M Floating Classroom, R/V Karma, was docked
at the Port of Palacios during the week of June 26-29 and played
host to Boys & Girls Club members from Palacios and El Campo.
Participating youth from the two Clubs were treated to a two-hour
cruise on the 57-foot research vessel, which included three saltwater
touch tanks, video-enhanced microscopes and an exciting look at
the results of a trawl net. Onshore activities were held
in the afternoon at East Bay Family Shelter and provided more
opportunities for education on the local marine environment. Funds
received earlier in the month from LCRA Employees’ United
Charities enabled the R/V Karma to serve the Palacios and El Campo
Clubs locally. Evening tours were also held by the Clubs
and Palacios Area Fund during the visit. |
